Brow lift

line2

Also known as forehead lift, brow lift is a surgical procedure that aims to reduce the signs of time in the forehead area. It also focuses on removing the horizontal wrinkles between the forehead and the middle eyebrow, as well as raising the eyebrows, making the eyes look more open.

The choice of the appropriate technique for each patient depends on the elasticity and texture / thickness of the skin, the bone structure and the general appearance and position of the eyebrows and eyelashes.

There are two techniques commonly used to raise eyebrows. One is the classic procedure which requires a long incision on the forehead, along the hairline, all the way up to the height of the ears. If the forehead is very wide, the incision may be made behind the hairline. The other technique is called endoscopic facelift which requires three to five small incisions made along the forehead at the level of the scalp line. In this case, the recovery time is shorter, and the scars are smaller than those of the classic lift. The choice of the appropriate technique for each patient depends on the elasticity and texture / thickness of the skin, the facial bone structure and the general appearance and position of the eyebrows and eyelashes.
The brow lift is usually performed in the surgeon's office, in a clinic, or in a hospital. Patients can choose between sedation and general anaesthesia. Depending on the technique used, either small incisions will be made along the forehead or one single longer incision. The doctor may move and reposition the skin and muscles to achieve the desired result. At the end of the operation, the incisions are closed with surgical sutures, tissue glue, or surgical clips. The stitches are usually hidden in the scalp or in the natural folds of the face. The doctor will cover the incisions with bandages. Tubes may be placed to remove fluid / blood from the incisions.
After the operation, the patient returns home the same day, but there are cases where a night may be needed. Swelling may initially occur in the area, which usually subsides within two weeks. The patient should not bend or lift weights for a few days after surgery in order to avoid possible bleeding. Complete recovery can take up to 6 months until the swelling is completely gone, and the scars are gone.
Depending on the patient's appearance and goals before surgery, the results are immediately visible and can be from discreet to very intense. The eyes look more "open" and the wrinkles on the forehead are visibly softened.
Before the operation, the doctor discusses with the patient about the possible complications and of course the benefits of facelift. In addition to the risk involved in all surgeries, eyebrow lifting can have complications such as:
  • Hair loss where the incisions have been made
  • Facial asymmetry
  • Higher hairline (wider forehead)
  • Facial nerve injury
  • Eye dryness or irritation
The possibility of complications is minimized by selecting the appropriate surgeon, experienced in this operation. Set up a meeting to discuss whether brow lift surgery is the right treatment for you. Contact Dr. Sotiris Ioannidis, now!
